A Wigwam for a Goose's Bridle

The relief is expansive. It is not
that the pain is gone. There are still
open wounds, and I know they will scar,
but is akin to stepping out
of a sauna and realising how suffocated
you’d felt in the humid heat, close and cloying.
It feels as though my rib cage has enlarged,
and now my lungs can fill to capacity
without restriction, and my heart
can beat at rest.
