minor procedures

We are an infected rodent ulcer
on the shin of an anti-coagulated diabetic vasculopath -
I’m unsure if this will heal even with a graft,
but you are so sure
of your surgical technique as you begin the excision.
I want to be impressed
by your confidence in your ability to cure the cancer.
I don’t want to undermine you,
the way you’re undermining the edges of the wound,
but I feel like this procedure was poorly planned.
You know there’s not enough skin
to close the defect; do you really believe
this can heal by secondary intent?
The cultures were multi-resistant,
the peripheral pulses non-existent,
and you’re dabbing lightly at blood
leaking faster than your piece of gauze can absorb it.
I’m not convinced you’ll save the limb.
