I had a thought,
just a thought.
It was not, in fact, a fact.
But this thought,
just a thought,
caused me to react
quite strongly with
some awkward feelings
getting me quite down,
because I let it,
just a thought,
order me around.
Then I fact-checked
that just-a-thought
and realised it was wrong,
so I told it where
to take itself.
Here’s not where it belongs.
Thoughts are just thoughts,
some true, some false,
but I don’t have to live
as though they’re true
without first checking
references they give.
So now if thoughts
arrive unbidden,
they will need to be assessed.
If their candour
is found lacking,
they’ll be promptly dispossessed.
Take your not-so whispered
lies. Be gone!
I’ll not succumb to fear,
or self-loathing.
You are just a thought
and have no power here.
